1. What do you do at ANN?
I am the Director of DE&I Consultancy. I work with our clients supporting them to make their organisations as inclusive and equitable as possible. No client is the same and so we fully customize our work each time. Our approach usually involves a phase of discovery, interviews and/or a survey. We can then start creating a strategy with key stakeholders and encourage best practices around processes. Typically we will deliver workshops or facilitate discussions to promote D&I education, create awareness and share different perspectives.
2. How has your career path led to D&I?
I often tell people that until this role, I felt a little like a jack of all trades but a master of none. I had a corporate career that always focused on people, spanning: training, recruitment, communications, diversity and inclusion, sales, marketing, succession planning and resourcing. D&I was the most enjoyable role by far and I approached things with a lens of D&I in all subsequent roles. I now utilize my experience in all of these functions to help our clients embed D&I within their organisations and their ongoing strategy.
3. Why do you work in D&I?
I love people and seeing people thrive. I truly believe that the work we do with our clients makes a positive difference. An inclusive and equitable culture allows, no, encourages people to bring their best selves to work and to thrive. The individual wins, the business wins and the end user wins. We get to see people succeed and then pass this forward to others - the ripple effect! Plus, I get to meet new people and have powerful and enlightening conversations on a daily basis.
4. What do you like about it?
Everything! On reflection, even the difficult conversations and occasional resistance are really powerful. We are proud to create an environment where people are honest and share their perspectives and questions. Whether that be somebody opening up about their own struggles or someone asking "why is this important". The impact of what we do, the feedback we receive and the change that we see are phenomenal. We help make a positive difference.
